I’m out of shape. I’m overweight. Is yoga really for someone like me?
Absolutely! Kripalu Yoga is great for people of all abilities and ages. Throughout class you will be prompted to listen to your body and honor its needs. Kripalu Yoga is accessible to everyone and offers modifications of its poses so that anyone can participate. Don’t worry if you can’t touch your toes today or even next month. Everything comes in time. Today is a great day to start your yoga practice.
What should I wear to class?
Dress comfortably in loose clothing that allows you to move. Lightweight sweatpants or shorts and a t-shirt are perfectly acceptable. It’s the attitude, not the yoga clothes, that makes a good practice.
Is there a place to change clothes before or after class?
Twisted Sister teaches yoga and yoga dance at different locations. All locations have restrooms where you may change. Most students arrive dressed for class. Students who practice early morning yoga at Caring Hands in Haverhill are welcome to use one of the massage rooms to change clothes before heading off to work.
I was told not to eat before class. Is this true?
Kripalu Yoga involves turning and twisting. You will be more comfortable if you come to class on an empty stomach. A very light snack right before class is okay.
Is it okay to bring water to class?
You are welcome to bring water to class and drink when you need to. Ideally you should drink water before class and arrive fully hydrated so you can be more comfortable during class. Stopping for a sip of water will break your meditative concentration, one of the great benefits of practicing Kripalu Yoga.
Do I need to bring my own mat?
The benefit of practicing yoga with Twisted Sister is that we provide a yoga mat for you. When you sign up for your class in advance, we’ll know you are coming and will have your mat ready and laid out for you. Some people prefer to use their own mat and are welcome to do so.
I need to leave class early. What should I do?
You reap some of the greatest benefits of Kripalu Yoga during the final fifteen minutes of class. But we understand that life happens. If you must leave early, please inform the instructor before the start of class. When it’s time to leave, please slip out quietly.
What should I do if I am running late?
Some yoga is better than no yoga and sometimes we get tripped up by traffic, work or family obligations. If you are running late, please slip in as quietly as you can so as not to interrupt the practice of your fellow students.
Is yoga just for women?
Kripalu Yoga is for men and women of all ages and abilities. Historically, yoga was practiced almost exclusively by men. It’s only in recent years that more women have been drawn to the practice of yoga. Men are welcome and encouraged to join us.
